ISO Thumb Drive

May 12th, 2008 by Chris

Booting from a USB thumb drive isn’t really rocket science.  There’s plenty of websites out there that show you how to do this.  You can even run full Linux installations off a thumb drive.  But in all my searching out there, I still haven’t found a software package that can do this….

How about being able to just copy an ISO file to a thumb drive, and having your PC boot right from the ISO?  Essentially you’d need to have some software on the device that can boot, create a virtual CDROM device and then mount up the ISO to boot from it.

Basically I’m looking for something that will turn an thumb drive into a bootstrappng device for ISO files.  This could be highly useful for people (like myself) that don’t have an optical drive built into their laptops.  Anyone know of some such software out there?  Sound off in the comments to this post!
